under that oak

i recall the last time we met
we were standing under the oak tree on a Tuesday evening in the fall
you looked into my eyes for the last time
i wasn't ready to say goodbye
i still recall the happy times
when you would read me your poetry
or the time you bought that rose for me
it meant everything
now it wilts in front of me in this dark room
why do these memories still haunt me?
i've tried to love somebody new,
but there is only one you
i miss you...

siren's song
01:01
|
|
||
you had me wrapped tightly 'round your finger
like a rabbit ensnared in a trap
your call was that of a siren's song
i was one ship of the many you wrecked

why do you still torment me?
you appear in my every dream
every day since that evening back in 2019
i walk those same paths from the park to the diner
past the factory, the church, and down the abandoned railroad tracks
as i walk i look to my right where you used to walk beside me
i see your silhouette like a ghost of a love lost long ago
then one day i saw you walking our same old path with another man
arms wrapped around each other
oh god, if only i could forget...
